Several members of the "StRATEGy" program took part in yesterdays institute outing in the south-eastern outskirts of Berlin. We visited the "Museumspark Rüdersdorf" and had a guided tour through the 760 years lasting history of limestone mining in that area. We were introduced to the present dimensions of the quarry and ancient industrial facilities, including the historic kilns and transportation systems. The limestone is one of the main georesources in the Berlin-Brandenburg area and the main component of the famous Rüdersdorfer cement, which is recently produced in one of the most modern cement industry complexes in Europe.

We thank Christof Ellger from the GeoUnion for organizing this event.
