Location:
Campus Golm - Building 27

We would like to draw your attention to the lecture course:

Computational Geodynamics 2019

The course is given by Prof. Dr. Stephan Sobolev, Head of the Geodynamic Modeling Section of the GFZ Potsdam. Morning lectures are complemented by afternoon Tutorial-Training guided by Michael Riedel and members of the Section. Participants are introduced to the mathematical formulation of Earth dynamics, including processes related to plate tectonics and mantle convection. Computational challenges related to geodynamic modeling, and some state of the art solutions, are presented and discussed. Participants receive an introduction and hands-on training in modeling with Finite Difference and Finite Element Methods, using examples that are simple, yet fundamental to understand the dynamics of our planet.
